A+ Operating Systems

Course Objectives

To prepare candidates for the Computing Technology Industry Association, (Comp TIA), A+ Operating System Technologies Examination. The A+ Certification program is industry-wide, developed and sponsored by Comp TIA, which is widely becoming recognised as a key qualification for IT support staff.
To qualify for A+ Service Technician status, it is necessary to pass both the above examination and the A+ Core Hardware examination.


Course Prerequisites

Delegates should be generally familiar with using PCs, including keyboard and mouse skills, but are not required to have prior experience in computer maintenance. A keen interest in computing and access to their own PC is also a benefit.

File system support, Disk management, performance settings and disk utilities.

Applications and Window 98
Multi tasking, virtual machine, memory modes, task manage and system utilities.

Configuring Windows 98
Registry, Devices, Plug and Play and troubleshooting.

Network Operating System
Peer to peer, configuring, login and sharing resources.

Windows ME
Differences, Movie maker and system restore.

Windows NT and 2000
Differences, server, workstation and domain mode.

Installing Windows 2000
Setup, partitions, dual boot, file systems and upgrading.

Windows 2000 Boot process
Boot files, Boot.ini, boot process and recovery console.

Configuring and Disk Storage

MMC, Network console, quota, encryption and dynamic storage.

Users, Groups and Securities
Managing accounts local and domain, NTFS securities, sharing permissions and ownership.

Troubleshooting
Last Known Good, WinMSD, recovery console and emergency recovery process.

Installing and Deploying Windows XP
System requirements, file system, setup manager and answer files.

Configuring Windows XP
System settings, Control Panel, Error reporting, environmental settings, Managing software, and administrative tools.
